ABOUT BROOKLYN COMMUNITY KITCHEN
The Brooklyn Community Kitchen began in the early 1990s with a simple act of kindness by Greenpoint resident, Frank Farrell. Moved by the sight of his unhoused and hungry neighbors, Frank started making a large pot of soup every Saturday and serving it in the park. His compassion sparked a movement, and soon others joined him, forming teams to help feed those in need.
Today, the Brooklyn Community Kitchen is a Greenpoint-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to nourishing our community throughout Brooklyn. What started as one man’s effort has grown into a weekly operation that serves hundreds of meals every Saturday. We take pride in preparing and serving healthy, balanced, and truly delicious food to anyone who needs it.
Our meals are made with care, often cooked from scratch using donated produce and surplus ingredients from local restaurants and food organizations.
At the Brooklyn Community Kitchen, we believe in the power of food to bring people together. All are welcome to share a meal, fostering a sense of community and connection. For over 30 years, we’ve been committed to ensuring no one in our neighborhood or beyond goes hungry, and we’re grateful for the support that allows us to continue this vital work.
